ProtectIQ: MidSouth Fiber’s Built-in Network Security
October 31, 2023
Staying protected from online threats is critical today, where cyberattacks are the fastest-growing crime in the U.S. At MidSouth Fiber, we know the importance of staying secure while surfing the web. That’s why we provide network security to every MidSouth Fiber Internet subscriber for free – known as ProtectIQ.
ProtectIQ is an extra layer of protection built directly into our Gigaspire routers. This added feature keeps your information and data secure by preventing cyber-attacks, viruses and malware. In the last month, ProtectIQ has defended MidSouth Fiber subscribers from 58,694 intrusions, 77,812 web threats and 572 viruses. That is more than 135,000 threats blocked before reaching homes and businesses!
Although these intrusions are blocked “behind the scenes”, fiber subscribers are able to view the exact threats ProtectIQ intercepts from a smart phone.
Start utilizing this extra layer of network protection by downloading the MidSouth Fiber app and enabling ProtectIQ in the settings.
Download the app today from the App Store or Google Play.
ProtectIQ is just one way to keep your data and information secure. Read below for a list of tips on what you can do to ensure your private information stays just that – private.
- Use strong passwords – Passwords should be at least 12 characters, contain a mix of upper-case and lower-case letters and include symbols and numbers. Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
- Visit secure websites (especially if shopping online) – Always make sure any website you visit contains “https” at the beginning of the URL and has a padlock icon in the address bar. Never enter credit card information into an unsecure site.
- Don’t click suspicious links – Cybercriminals will pose as trusted providers, such as your bank, encouraging recipients or readers to click links. Once the link is open, malware enters your device with ill intentions. If you are ever unsure about a link, call the company directly to verify its authenticity.
